Work from home has become quite the norm for many big and small companies. The idea of having a ‘normal’ office life with workers at full capacity is a thing of the past and one remains unsure when workplaces will get anywhere close to that. At least Amazon has made it clear that it does not see it happening till 2021.
According to a report by CNBC, Amazon has confirmed that it won’t be calling back employees till January 8. “We continue to prioritise the health of our employees and follow local government guidance,” an Amazon spokesperson told CNBC. “Employees who work in a role that can effectively be done from home are welcome to do so until January 8.”

It’s not clear how many employees will get affected by this. However, as per CNBC, this is part of the global guidance policy, so it means for Amazon employees all over the world.
Earlier in May, Amazon had announced that the work from home policy would be effective until October 2. Amazon has over 8.4 lakh employees all over the world, the company had said at the end of the last quarter.
Amazon isn’t the only company to have extended the work from home policy. Even though Apple hasn’t officially confirmed or denied, a Bloomberg report suggested that the company doesn’t expect offices to be reopened before the end of the year. Though it may reopen some offices in Europe and Asia, in the US, the Cupertino-based tech giant isn’t expecting employees to come back before the year ends.
Even Google has said that it will take things slowly and remains unsure of when employees will be back. Facebook has also said that it doesn’t expect 60% of its employees to come back to the office any time soon.
